Main Market

(250 m from the Mikolaj hotel)

The Main Market is the largest square in Kraków and at the same time the largest market in medieval Europe. Krakow was located according to Magdeburg law from 5 June 1257 and it was Boleslaw Wstydliwy who took up the challenge. The market has been set up by previous mayors Gedko Stilvoyt, Jakub from Nysa and Dytmar from Wroclaw as a square with slightly more than 200 meters long sides with distortions arising from the need to adapt to the residue of settlements (St Mary's church and church of St. Wojciech). It was designed for locals and pilgrims who followed the merchant routes to have enough space to be able to sell their goods here. Cloth Halls located in the center of the market remind of numerous merchants' stalls that once stood here.

There is also the possibility of booking a trips to places like the Wieliczka Salt Mine or Auschwitz - Birkenau.
